How Many Water Bowls Does Your Cat Actually Need? (I Got This Wrong Too)

I used to think one water bowl was enough for my cat.
Turns out… I was wrong.

If you’ve ever noticed your cat walking past their water without drinking, this might be why.

🐾 What I learned

After talking to other cat owners (and a vet), I realized:
👉 Cats don’t like sharing water as much as we think.

Even in a single-cat home, having just one bowl can sometimes limit how often they drink.

💡 What actually works

Now I follow a simple rule:

One cat → at least two water spots
More cats → add extra

And honestly, it made a difference. My cat drinks more now without me doing anything else.

📍 Placement matters more than you think

I also stopped putting everything in one place.

One bowl in the kitchen
One in the living room

It just feels more “natural” for them.

🐱 One thing that helped even more

I added a small water fountain.
Not going to lie — I didn’t expect much, but my cat immediately got curious.

🎯 Final thought

Sometimes it’s not about forcing your cat to drink more
It’s about making it easier for them to choose to drink
